CUPE 1622 currently represents over 130 members that work in animal health and welfare industry. Members work in departments and shelters all over the Fraser Valley to Metro Vancouver area. CUPE members work under the protection of a contract called a collective agreement which is bargained for by an elected committee of current members. The committee also works to resolve issues in the workplace both current and in the foreseeable future by bargaining for contract proposals that protect everyone.

If questions arise at your workplace, email you union as they will help you to either find answers to those questions or point you in the right direction.

Basic Rights to Health and Safety

Right to refuse to work if you have reasonable cause to believe that:

your workplace presents a danger to you or others
the use or operation of a apparatus presents a danger to you or to another employee, and
the performance of an activity constitutes a danger to you or to another employee
if you are injured while at your workplace you MUST call WorkSafeBC within 72 hours @ teleclaim 1-888- 967-5377 to start your claim, or online at worksafebc.com. It is both the Employee and the Employer’s responsibility to call and report.

2. Right to be informed of known or foreseeable hazards in the workplace and to be provided with the information, instructions, training, and supervision necessary to protect your health and safety.

3. Right to participate as health and safety presentative or workplace health and safety committee or policy health and safety committee members, employees have the right to participate in identifying and correcting work-related health and safety concerns.

4. Right to no discrimination against.
